Let’s dive deeper into the exciting yet sometimes daunting phase 2 – experimentation – of the transition journey. This is the in-between stage where you’re saying goodbye to the past and hello to the future. Think of it as exploring a maze – with each turn, there’s uncertainty, but also the promise of discovery and growth. So, where will you focus your energy during this phase? Let’s break it down.
Imagining your new beginning. First things first, start by imagining how you want things to look and feel once you segue to your new beginning (phase 3). This might take the form of vision, goals, and definitely some outcomes to monitor and measure success. This step can be so incredibly uplifting because you’re sparking the light at the end of the tunnel.
Brainstorming then evaluating options. Next up, it’s time to brainstorm and evaluate your options. For each option, understand the risks and resource needs, notice what feels right (head and heart), and recognize which options are most likely to fuel your ideal outcomes. Vet and prioritize these options, then clarify what success looks like at key milestones. This step can be energizing and empowering as you get closer to your new beginning. Sometimes it can also become off-putting, especially if your options list is long or some options require more resources than you have.

Experimenting with your short list.Now, let’s get hands-on! Begin implementing the top option from your short list. You know the drill; break it down into actionable steps. You’ll know if it’s working because you can compare actual and expected outcomes. If the top option doesn’t fit, move on to the next or work on a few options simultaneously if it’s feasible. You might find it helpful to combine different options to discover what best suits your needs. The truth is, this step can get messy with starts and stops, wins and losses, but that’s all part of the journey.
Acknowledging and processing your emotions. Experimenting with different options can bring about a variety of emotions, including uncertainty, disorientation, confusion, impatience and even frustration because progress is slow. The best thing you can do is to give yourself permission to normalize these feelings and remind yourself that this phase and its emotions are temporary. So, be sure to celebrate small victories to bring more positivity to your journey.

Practice good self-care. Practice good self-care by surrounding yourself with your tribe of caring peeps – friends, family, and folks who have been through the transition you’re experiencing. Remind yourself of your vision to get re-energized. Maintain some level of routine or structure in other parts of your life that ignite positivity to help balance things out.
Choosing your new beginning. With the trial and error of options behind you, knowledge that your chosen option satisfies your desired outcomes, and the positive feelings it ignites, you are ready to move on to phase 3 – New Beginnings.
